Smecta possesses a powerful coating property on the gastrointestinal mucosa. It increases the resistance of the mucosal layer against agressive agents, thereby protecting the gastrointestinal mucosa. It is used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea in adults and children.
 
Smecta does not colour stools, is radiolucent, and at usual doses, does not modify the intestinal transit time. It is also neither absorbed or metabolized. 
 
Dosage & administration
Children < 1 year old - 1 sachet per day
Children 1 - 2 years old - 1 to 2 sachets per day
Over the age of 2 years old - 2 to 3 sachets per day
 
Adults - approximately 3 sachets per day
 
The contents of the sachet can be added to water (at least 50mL), or semi-liquid food (broth, stewed fruit, mashed vegetables, baby food) before consumption. 
 
Warning: It is best not to administer any other drugs at the same time with Smecta as this product may interfere with the absorption of other substances.
